Pathology and Blood Tests in Lismore, NSW

At Lismore Doctors, we offer onsite pathology services to help our GPs investigate the underlying causes of your symptoms, not just treat them. Having pathology available at our Lismore clinic means faster results and a more streamlined experience for our patients.

What Is Pathology?

Pathology involves the testing of blood, urine, tissue, and other samples to help diagnose, monitor, and manage a wide range of health conditions. It is one of the most important tools available to GPs in understanding what is happening in your body and determining the most appropriate course of care.

What We Test For

Pathology and blood tests can assist with identifying and monitoring a wide range of conditions and health indicators, including:

  • Blood glucose levels and diabetes management
  • Cholesterol and cardiovascular risk
  • Thyroid function
  • Kidney and liver function
  • Full blood count and iron levels
  • Vitamin and mineral deficiencies
  • Hormonal health
  • Infection and inflammation markers
  • STI screening
  • Cancer markers where clinically appropriate

Your GP will request the specific tests relevant to your health concerns and circumstances. Pathology is ordered based on clinical need and is always discussed with you as part of your consultation.

Onsite Pathology at Lismore Doctors

Having onsite pathology at our clinic means you may be able to have your tests completed without needing to travel to a separate facility. This makes the process more convenient and allows your GP to receive and act on results more efficiently.

Please check with our reception team when booking to confirm the availability of specific tests at the time of your appointment.

What to Expect

If your GP requests a pathology test, they will provide you with a pathology request form. Depending on the test required, you may need to fast beforehand. Your GP or our reception team will let you know if this applies to you.

Once your results are available, your GP will discuss them with you and advise on any next steps. Results are generally not discussed over the phone and a follow-up appointment may be required depending on the nature of your results.

Bulk Billing for Pathology

Lismore Doctors bulk bills all patients with a valid Medicare card for eligible consultations. Most standard pathology and blood tests ordered by your GP are also covered under Medicare at no out-of-pocket cost to you.

Some specialised tests may not be covered by Medicare and could incur a private fee. Our team will advise you of any applicable costs if this is the case.

If you have questions about fees, call us on (02) 5658 5644, Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
